Concrete Waterstops

In most concrete structures and elements, a particular type of joint (construction, contraction, control, expansion or isolation) could be designed for a number of varied structural design reasons.  Concrete structures are only as watertight as these joints and, due to this, a "waterstop" product will be required if the structure is water retaining or water excluding.

Waterstops are a critical element to many and varied projects. There are many types of waterstop systems to be considered for use, and a very specific type may need to be used for a joint that has to be sealed up.  Safari Building Products have a large range of waterstop systems including the following:

Hydrotite is the brand name for a state of the art hydrophilic waterstop with unmatched durability and water sealing capacity.  Hydrotite consists of a unique combination of expanding hydrophilic materials and non-expanding chloroprene rubber co-extruded together to form a single strip.  The expanding section is blue with the non-expanding section being black.  The co-extruded design means that the expansion is directed across the joint for maximum sealing performance.  This expansion creates an effective compression seal within joints which shuts out the water path.

This is available in the profiles below (most popular @ 10x20mm or at 7x25mm, in 10m rolls).

Sure-Stop Supercast PVC Waterstops are at the cutting edge of technology and design and comply to international standards, extruded from specially compounded PVC.  Designed for use in water retaining and water excluding structures where a seal is needed for expansion & construction joints, this range includes designs allowing for expansion, contraction and other movement.

The range of profiles for both central and external placement within the joint ensure a continuous barrier making Safari's PVC Waterstops ideal for preventing water penetration.  These profiles are available in rolls with separate intersections supplied to simplify and minimise on-site work.

Safari stock a huge range of Sure-Stop, Rear-Guard and Centre-Cast (also known as Centre-Bulb) waterstops.  We can also arrange to custom produce PVC waterstops in accordance to your projects material property specifications. Contact us for further information.

Superswell 47B Hydrophilic Butyl Waterstop Seal is a unique compound which demonstrates controlled expansion when exposed to moisture, forming a compression seal in concrete joints.  It is ideal for use in horizontal and vertical construction joints for cast in-situ concrete structures as an upgrade to bentonite waterstops.

Superswell 47B contains encapsulated hydrophilic materials in a Butyl base creating a controlled, moisture-activated seal. The product has the structural integrity and the long term durability features of Butyl, as well as the ability to expand to create a self-healing joint waterstop seal.

Superswell 47B complies to NSF/ANSI Standard 61 Drinking Water System Components – Health Effects, meaning that this "licorice-looking" waterstop is safe for use in drinking water applications and is suitable for use in potable water retaining structures such as tanks, pools and reservoirs

Leakmaster LV-Z is a one-component polyurethane hydrophilic (water-swelling/waterstop) sealant with unique physical properties. It can be applied to joints in concrete, in civil engineering construction and water services for seals where conventional seals are impractical. It is also regularly used as an adhesive for other waterstop items such as Hydrotite and SuperSwell 47B to ensure adherence and sealing to rough concrete.

After curing it has excellent physical properties together with rubber-like elasticity and water sealing properties including the ability to support 20m heads of water. Leakmaster expands approximately two times its original volume when exposed to water and will adhere to plastics, glass, metal, concrete and most other building materials.  Safari stock Leakmaster LV-Z in 320mL cartridges which can be used in a standard caulking gun.

Bituthene 3000 is a self-adhesive, rubberised asphalt/polyethylene waterproofing membrane used in basements and substructures.

Bituthene 5000, also known as Heavy Duty Bituthene, is a waterproofing material incorporating high strength, heat-resistant mesh embedded in a layer of self-adhesive rubberised asphalt. It is supplied in rolls interwound with special release paper which protects the adhesive surface until ready for use and allows easy handling during installation.

Safari also supply Form Tie Waterstops which are produced from a unique hydrophilic rubber sealing compound.

This system seals the conduit used for formwork tie bars both internally (with swellable plugs) and externally with a swellable ring to ensure water-tightness in water-excluding areas such as retaining walls, tunnels/subways, underground car parks, basement walls and manholes/pits as well as water-retaining structures like tanks, reservoirs, dams, pools, bund walls and sewage/water treatment plants.

These expand in a controlled fashion when exposed to moisture to form a compression seal inside or around the form-tie system in the concrete structure, giving a permanent flexible watertight seal.
